Fishers’ 2024 MLK Jr. Day celebration will offer residents several ways to give back to the community and celebrate the message of kindness from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with a community-wide food drive and volunteer opportunities throughout the city.
Community-Wide Food Drive
With our local food pantries experiencing an increase in demand, and a decrease in supply, the City of Fishers is holding a community-wide food drive on Monday, January 15. Food donations will be collected with a Pack the Snowplow event at all three Fishers Kroger stores from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Also on January 15, Billericay and Holland Parks will host donation collections along with a free drop-in Kindness Rock painting event from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
From January 8 through 15, stop by and donate at the Hamilton East Public Library, Fishers YMCA, City Services Building, and Fishers Parks Office.
Donation needs include:
- Canned or bagged beans
- Canned fruit
- Canned meats
- Canned soup
- Vegetable pull-tops
- Boxed pasta
- Peanut butter
- Jelly
- Ranch dressing
- Spaghetti sauce (canned or plastic jars)
- Canned ravioli
- Meals in a cup (such as mac n cheese, ravioli, etc.
- Boxed breakfast cereal
- Individual cups of Rice A Roni
- Cereal or Nutri-Grain bars
- Belvita bars
- Pop Tarts
- No glass bottles, please!
Donations will be collected at the following parks and Kroger stores:

Volunteer
MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. This year, Fishers residents are invited to volunteer with the City.
Opportunities include:

Special Activities
Celebrate the messages of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by spreading hope and kindness throughout your community. Leading up to MLK Day, visit the Fishers Parks Maker Labs (8100 E. 106th Street, Suite 150) to create your “I have a dream” yard sign to display in front of your own. Sign making will be available from January 4 through 12 on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. All supplies will be provided free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.
During the celebration on January 15, visit Holland Park and Billericay Park for kindness rock painting from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Decorate your rock with an inspiring message of love and kindness to brighten someone’s day. All supplies will be provided free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. “I have a dream” yard signs will be available at both parks to use, as well.
