After a busy Spark!Fishers week of events, I caught up with some of the Fishers Parks crew for a quick Q&A about summer fun #AroundFishers and beyond!
Sarah Sandquist, Director of Parks and Recreation
Favorite Summer Activity or Tradition: “My favorite summer tradition is Spark!Fishers. The event is a quintessential part of Fishers and brings the entire community together to celebrate the history of our city and build traditions with friends and family. The fireworks show at the end of the evening is the perfect cap to a great week of celebration!”
Favorite Fishers Parks Summer Event: “My favorite Fishers Parks event is Mud Day. It’s a simple concept; We create a giant mud pit and invite the community to come and get muddy! It’s my favorite because my kids would play in the mud every day if they had the chance. Mud Day gives them the opportunity to get as muddy as they would like in a swimming-pool-size mud pit!”
Andrew Myers, Operations Manager
Favorite Summer Activity or Tradition: “Spending as much time at the pool as possible!”
Favorite Fishers Parks Summer Event: The Fishers Farmers Market. Getting breakfast and then letting the kids run through the fountain at the Pavilion. Shout out to Walking Waffle and Skillington Farms!”
Trevor Wildey, AgriPark Operations Manager
Favorite Summer Activity or Tradition: “Getting the family together and going camping and cooking out.”
Favorite Fishers Parks Summer Event: “Spark!Fishers. It’s great to see the community come together.”
Jackie Leeuw, Agriculture Coordinator
Favorite Summer Activity or Tradition: “My favorite summer activity is attending county fairs across the state and watching livestock shows. I grew up showing livestock and traveling with my dad to a lot of different places for it. I also really like trying every fair’s ice cream.”
Favorite Fishers Parks Summer Event: “My favorite Fishers Parks summer event is the Farmers Market. I love the atmosphere at the market and seeing so many people come out to support the vendors and their hard work.”
Adam Wagner, Experience Coordinator
Favorite Summer Activity or Tradition: “My favorite summer activity is camping and climbing down at Red River Gorge. It is nice to step away from the city and interact with nature.”
Favorite Fishers Parks Summer Event: “My favorite Parks summer event is our Movies in the Park series. It is always fun to see blockbuster films while sitting outside among our Fishers Parks.”
Kristen Henley, Ambassador House Coordinator
Favorite Summer Activity or Tradition: “My favorite summer activity is going to concerts! My partner and I enjoy sharing our love for live music with our four children at all the wonderful outdoor music venues in the area. In the summer, we also take the opportunity to travel while the kids are out of school. Disney World was on our list this summer!”
Favorite Fishers Parks Summer Event: “We enjoy the variety of music Fishers Parks brings to the community. It gives us a chance to spend a fun evening with family and friends while the kids dance their little hearts out!”
Susan Davis, Program Coordinator
Favorite Summer Activity or Tradition: “Bird watching along the White River while getting my steps in at Heritage Park.”
