It’s Sunday! You want to spend the day with your family, making memories and having fun, but you always seem to draw a blank on what to do. I’ve been there. Here’s a quick run down on a few options for your next family friendly Sunday Funday in Fishers.
Starting your day off with sugar is a must for a memorable family day. There are a number of incredible donut shops around town to choose from. Jack’s Donuts is one of my favorites because they allow you to bring your own container for donuts and cup for coffee, eliminating single use waste! They also have vegan options.
Ohana Donuts & Ice Cream is a fun option because you get to customize your pastry with your favorite icing flavor and choose from tons of awesome toppings. A few of our favorite combinations include: lemon icing with coconut flakes, chocolate icing with sea salt, and vanilla icing with fruity pebbles. Or you could try Rise’N Roll Bakery at the Fishers District for delicious Amish donuts and an array of other incredible bakery items.
After a sufficient sugar rush, you can work all those sillies out by visiting one of Fishers’ many playgrounds. Brooks School Park is a super fun place to play and it has a little nature trail with a dock overlooking Mud Creek. For younger kids, the Born Learning Trail offers 10 activities to learn about and explore their surroundings. Shaded pavilions and restrooms on site ensure you can have a comfortable time playing here. Don’t forget to check out the brand new #InThisTogether mural on your way back to the car!
Another incredible playground can be found at the Roy G. Holland Memorial Park right in downtown Fishers. This park is expansive! There is a huge play area for bigger kids as well as a dedicated play space for littler ones. But it’s not just great playgrounds. Holland Park boasts so many additional features: basketball courts, sand volleyball, baseball diamonds, grills, pavilions, and of course the splash pad!
You’ve likely got some time to kill before dinner, so check out some of the great small businesses that have popped up across town recently. Fishers is filled with locally owned small businesses that count on our residents for support. By choosing to shop small, we support our community!
If you need a midday caffeine pick me up, choose Geist Coffee, The Well, Schoolhouse 7, or Rose & Lois over a national chain. For clothes shopping, visit Roman & Leo, State of Grace, Blue Peppermint, or check out Simply Chic for a more sustainable, secondhand alternative. Maybe you need to get a gift for a teacher, a baby shower, or a friend’s birthday. Gallery 116 or MJ Layne would be great options to find what you need!
Sunday dinner is a big deal in my family- we look forward to it all week! Luckily, we live in a city with TONS of unique dining options and some really great restaurants. It’s almost impossible to narrow it down to a few suggestions. We like to use Sunday dinner to explore all the locally owned eateries that Fishers has to offer.
At the Fishers District, 101 Beer Kitchen is great for artisan food with a relaxed vibe. Or if you are feeling a bit more fancy, HC Tavern is incredible and you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. For a quick and casual dinner, we love Goodfella’s Pizza or El Camino Real. More adventurous eaters should try Chao Vietnamese, Korave Korean BBQ, St Yared Ethiopian, or Thai Sushi House. See what I mean about the great variety of dining options? This is a huge reason we love living in Fishers!
Before you go home to pack the kids’ backpacks and set your alarm for Monday morning, be sure to take a moment to appreciate the hard work and passion behind each small business you visited on your Family Sunday Funday. Kelly Yale is a long-time resident of Fishers (she’s lived here since she was 12!) who lives on the east side of the city. She loves hiking in parks, cooking and trying new restaurants, visiting the Fishers Farmers’ Market, and spending time with her family.
