For me, wintertime reminds me fondly of my childhood. You see, this will be my first winter in 17 years! I recently moved here from Southwest Florida. Many people have said, “you went the wrong way!” or “why leave sunny Florida?” I know, I know! Florida has its perks. Many of our fellow Hoosiers spend vacations there, hanging by the beach or hopping on a cruise ship. I’ll tell you something Florida doesn’t have though…four seasons! That’s right – summer, spring, fall, and you guessed it, winter!
Winter in Indiana is cold, and yes, I’m sure it can occasionally be a little relentless! However, winter can also bring about a lot of joy – holiday lights, family time, delicious food, cozy fires, and hot cocoa.
Here, at Fishers Parks, we want to celebrate the joy of the winter season with our wonderful community. Thus, we bring you Winter Wonderland! This year, join us at a reimagined event, full of some past favorite features, but with a more inclusive feel and a few fun new activities.
Here are five things to check out at this year’s Winter Wonderland:
1.) Firepits on the Lawn
The back lawn at The NPD AMP will be filled with cozy firepits, perfect for keeping warm or roasting some marshmallows! Stop by the Fishers Parks Tent to grab a s’mores family pack, while supplies last.
2.) Winter Wonderland of Art
Presented by the Fishers Arts Council, the Winter Wonderland of Art will have at least 15 local artists and artisans demonstrating, displaying, and selling their work. Enjoy the holiday-filled art gallery, shop for handmade gifts, or even learn a few skills! The Winter Wonderland of Art will be open in City Hall from 3 – 8 p.m.
3.) Live Ice Carving
Indiana Ice Studio will have three ice carvings for onlookers to enjoy, one of which will be carved live on-site! Check out the live carving on the lawn just behind City Hall from 4 to 6 p.m.
4.) Tree Lighting
Mayor Fadness will kick off the City of Fishers Annual Tree Lighting at 6 p.m. on the NPD AMP stage!
5.) Holiday Rides
Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride around Municipal Drive or hop on the holiday train with the kiddos! These offerings will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. and will have limited availability.
