City Government Academy

Fishers residents can go behind the scenes of local government and hear from staff, tour City facilities and engage in the collaborative city governing process in the City of Fishers’ City Government Academy (CGA). At the end of the 9-week course, participants will have a greater understanding of how the Fishers government works. The academy is free and open to Fishers residents who are ages 18+.

Mayor’s Youth Academy

In partnership with the City of Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern Schools, and the Eman schools, the Mayor’s Youth Academy offers the opportunity to build community awareness, provide hands-on learning opportunities that enhance curriculum, and inspire future careers in the public sector. The Fishers Mayor’s Youth Academy is a year-long experience provided by the City of Fishers for high school juniors and seniors who live in and or attend school in Fishers with a GPA of at least 3.0 to be eligible for the program.Registration for the 2023-2024 school year is closed.

Fishers Police Department Citizen’s Academy

The academy is an opportunity for the community to participate in police-style training through a 12-week course. Topics include criminal law, crime prevention, the K9 program, defensive tactics, and narcotics training through demonstrations and classroom instruction. Email Allison Nicholson for more info.

Fishers Police Department Cadet Academy

Open to young adults 14 to 19 years old, this free program exposes participants to the Police Department and helps those interested in law enforcement careers to make an informed decision. Programs offered include crime scene investigation, traffic stops, use of police dogs, SWAT, computer crimes, and more. All meetings are open to new members. Fishers Police Department Teen Academy 

The 15th annual Fishers Police Department Teen Academy will be held June 20th - 24th in conjunction with the Fishers YMCA.  This year’s academy will be held at Riverside Intermediate in Fishers.  The academy is one week of law enforcement type training that will allow teens to better understand how law enforcement works.  The academy will also allow teens to get to know several officers through a variety of social activities. 

 The academy is open to any applicant 13 years of age or older.  Applicants must be enrolled in a junior high or high school in Fishers.  Each applicant is subject to a screening process and therefore walk-ins will not be allowed. We only have 40 spots available for this year’s academy!  If you are interested, please contact Officer Cory Robinson at robinsonc@fishers.in.us to begin the screening process.

Fishers Police Corps

The Fishers Police Corps is a group of volunteers comprised of citizens who have completed the Fishers Police Citizens Academy and who wish to continue to support the Fishers Police Department through volunteer activities. The Corps volunteers at Touch-A-Truck, Pack the Cruiser, Teen Academy and Police Explorers Summer Camps, National Night Out, the Octoberfest FOP event, Boo Bash, Cops & Kids, the Awards Banquet, vehicle fleet checks, the FPD annual meeting, and other community events. The group also raises funds in order to support the department by providing food for the officers at various events, recognition during the holidays and on their birthdays, conducting fleet checks of the vehicles and many other activities as they arise.  Every year our group provides a $1,500 scholarship for a student at Hamilton Southeastern or Fishers High School who is interested in pursuing a law related career.  CLICK HERE for further information.

Citizen’s Fire Academy

The Fishers Fire Department Citizen’s Academy is a free 8-week program designed to increase understanding of fire and emergency medical operations and to promote citizen interaction with the Fishers Fire Department Personnel. The program is designed to enhance awareness of the department’s capabilities, develop realistic expectations of response times from the point of dispatch, and develop a cooperative relationship between firefighters and the citizens of Fishers. Fishers Fire Corps

A Fire Corps member provides support to the firefighters by performing services at emergency incidents and non-emergency events at department facilities and department functions. This includes responding to incidents to provide incident rehabilitation to firefighters and support to individuals affected by an emergency. The Fire Corps maintains the Rehab Support Unit (RSU) apparatus, equipment, and supplies, and provides rehabilitation services during hands-on training events.

 Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with public education
  • Constructing training props
  • Creating training videos
  • Event planning
  • Fundraising
  • Serving at actual emergency incidents
  • Transporting training equipment to drill sites

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, pass a criminal background check, and have received a high school diploma or GED. All candidates must complete the Fire Corp Application and Background Disclosure and Authorization Form.
